Blog: It’s been a while

Apologies for not posting for some time, life has got in the way recently. Like many, I’ve had good days and bad days over the last few months.

Since relocating overseas, my days have become busier, meaning I’m having less ‘me time’. It took me a while to actually recognise that I needed to stop and reflect in order to move forward.

One instance of this that I wanted to share is that running has has for many years been a coping mechanism for me. It gives me that time out with my thoughts, no pressure, just fresh air and exercise. Over the Christmas period, I decided to sign up to run the Paris Marathon in April. I’ve been training for it but I’m not quite where I would like to be fitness wise.

I’m not going to run a personal best in Paris, it’s out of the question, so I had a decision to make, do I accept defeat and not run? No! I reflected and have decided to do what made me first fall in love with running, I’m going to do it for my individual wellbeing, I’m going to find the joy in it. No watching the clock, just run and take in the beautiful sites that Paris has to offer. It’s my favourite marathon (I’ve done it twice previously). This decision has taken quite a lot of pressure off and I believe that I will actually enjoy this one.

We all have our own ways of coping, sometimes we can make decisions purely on our own but this one was done by messaging a good friend (hi James!) and I am very grateful for that.

I promise not to leave it as long for the next one.
