This week, Tuesday 8 September, marks a major milestone: Star Trek turns 60 years old. For many of us, it is far more than a television show—it has been a defining blueprint for life.
When I was younger, liking Star Trek wasn’t always the easiest badge to wear. People mocked what they didn’t understand, turning a personal source of joy into an external target for judgment. But looking back, that early passion acted as a compass. It led me toward like-minded communities, lifelong friends, and a deeper understanding of inclusion, acceptance, and human connection.
Star Trek has always tackled the heavy questions—war, terrorism, reunification, and the process of healing deep wounds. Growing up with those stories teaches you how to look past surface differences and relate to people who see the world differently. It champions possibility, exploration, and empathy.
Yet, the social friction we face when we are young often leaves a mark. People who don’t share our passions frequently try to shrink them into negatives simply because they don’t understand them.
Reaching this anniversary brings me back to a fundamental realisation: live your life the way you want to.
Pursue your interests unapologetically. The noise from outside critics only has power if you grant it permission.
Put yourself first. Doing what is right for your own growth and mental well-being isn’t selfish—it’s essential.
Celebrate what brings you joy. Whether it’s science fiction, boxing, or a new fitness challenge, invest in the things that light you up.
Here is to the next frontier, whatever it looks like for you today. Live long and prosper, exactly as you are.
