Blog: Self Respect, Self Worth. In my own words

on

It has been a little while since I posted a blog here. I’ve actually taken a break from blog writing (which I do outside of work time) to focus my writing in other areas (creative writing). But it has been on my list to get back to.

Well, sometimes life decides to deal you a curve ball, and just like that I’m back with a blog.

This below, is something I wrote last night. Its an event that occurred last night, and I wanted to share this here. I believe the message speaks for itself. This post is not an attempt to get your sympathy – it’s a reminder that your own self worth and happiness is everything.

(events described occurred on 2 July):

I went to the gym this evening with the intention of doing a class at my gym. But I did not go in.

Five years ago, I cut out a “friend” from my life. We had been friends for 30 years, but for the final two years of that they became abusive towards me: body shaming, homophobic and nasty.

In the first weeks of lockdown, I cut her out of my life. It’s one of the best things I ever did.

I grew to accept myself and I learned my worth. I found happiness in life and learned what self-love and respect is.

Skip to this evening. I see this person waiting outside the studio for the class to start. I walked away.

I know my worth, and I am happy. There’s no way I am ever letting that person near my life. I am strong and on the right path.

Never, ever let anyone tell you are worthless.

Never let anyone tell you how to live your life.

    Never let toxic people in.

I know my value. This person thought they had power. They didn’t. This person thinks it’s acceptable to tell me they “disapprove of my lifestyle” and that people with mental ill health are “attention seekers.”

There’s very few people I hate in this world, but this person is one of them. But today I did what I had to.

I’m sharing this story as a reminder that you are worth it, and your life matters.
