Blog: Loved and lost

Life is short

It’s better to have loved and lost than to never have loved at all.

These are two quite varied sayings that I’ve heard quite a lot in life. The first one really resonates with. The pace of life feels fast as I get older, and I realised just how important our time is. The second saying I first learned from a TV show called Ally McBeal. This is an important reminder to me to focus on the positives and the love of things in life. To me this saying isn’t just about romantic love, it’s about an appreciation and gratitude for those really important elements of my life. The saying also reminds me of the finite time we have, and it is best for me to focus my life and my time on what really matters.

I’m reminded what really matters today. It’s been a full year since my cat passed away quite suddenly, she was such a huge part of my life. Not just because she was my beloved pet, but she was also a special needs cat. Because of the adaptations and attention that she required, pretty much my whole home life revolves around her I’m what she needed. So, the loss of Kit Kat left a significant gap in my home life and many things changed. I think about her every day, and I really miss her. But I am also reminded that is better to have loved and lost than to never have loved at all. I loved kit kat and I’m very grateful to have given her a home and the life she lived.

Life is supposed to be messy. There is no such thing as perfection. Life can throw you a curveball at any point, they’re often the small things that are thrown at us, our resilience skills help us through it. But life is short, and anything can end at any point without notice. KitKat died very suddenly, with no warning. I grieved for her for many months. But at the same time expressing gratitude for her life.

I wrote the first draught of this blog using auto dictate. My other cats is sat purring on my lap as I speak my words. He reminds me of the love in the world and in my life. For that I’m grateful.
