Despite my recent injury, I feel like I am making good progress towards some of my fitness goals.
I set my self some resolutions on fitness in 2021 (I set these before new years day for information).
- Run 13.1 miles (a half marathon) before the end of 2021
- Increase my running speed and aim to achieve six miles in one hour or less
- Begin high intensity interval training at home
- Develop my boxing skills and technique
So far I am making great progress with my running speed – I am now getting close to running my regular 5.1 mile circuit in around 56 minutes. One thing I will consider for this goal is the route. My village is both rural and very, very hilly. I think once lockdown measures have been adjusted in England, I’ll drive out to a nearby country park that is flat. This is where I will attempt my first speed run towards this goal.
I am building my running distance and given its winter, we have had extensive sub zero temperatures – I am pleased with how this is progressing. I am hoping the onset of spring will ease my progression here too.
My goals are there to aid my motivation. They are not there to add any stress at all. I’ve gone for fairly open goals, and they are flexible. I do not know what the future holds or what life will throw at me. If I don’t achieve it, so be it. They can be adjusted, extended or evolved. As I’ve said before, this is my fitness journey. It doesn’t conform to anyone else’s rule. My only rule with exercise is to have fun. If a particular activity is no longer enjoyable, I make adjustments.
Live by your own rules, don’t be dictated to. Don’t live by what someone else says you should do.
One life to live, be free and enjoy it.
